This week on A Prairie Home Companion, we present some highlights from our 2009 season including Pat Donohue, Brad Paisley and Sam Bush performing "Stealin' From Chet" at the Ryman Auditorium, Elvis Costello as an English author and stuttering son of the Earl of Twickerham in an epsiode of Guy Noir, and Martin Sheen as a flim-flamming, four flushing, shortchanging, deckstackin' yahoo in an episode of The Lives of the Cowboys. Plus, Marvin and Mavis Smiley's tribute to Bruce Springsteen, Nellie McKay's tribute to Doris Day, and Patty Loveless sings "The Bramble and the Rose." In Lake Wobegon, the story of Margie Krepsbach checking herself into a hotel for Mother's Day to watch movies.

This week on A Prairie Home Companion, as our cast and crew continue to snowshoe their way out of the great snowy East toward San Francisco, we've assembled a holiday highlight show to cover the gap. Soprano Renée Fleming sings "Hard Times", our dear departed friend Odetta sings "Poor Little Jesus", and The Boys of the Lough perform "The Christ Child's Lullaby." Plus, a choir of singing sheep in The Lives of the Cowboys, Buster, The Dog of Christmas, a conversation with the Big Man himself, Santa Claus, and our traditional Silent Night sing-a-long. Join us this week for a no cost, no stress, day after the holiday show, with plenty of pickled herring, Pinnekjøtt, and good cheer.

This week on A Prairie Home Companion, Christmas is a coming and last-minute shopping we'll try to swing. The displays in store windows are a constant reminder so let's forget it all and sing. We're ending our residency at The Town Hall in New York on a high note with three complementary chanteuses who will soothe your December blues: the lovely Norah Jones, the inimitable Madeleine Peyroux and the jazzy Heather Masse. As if they aren't enough to infuse you with the spirit, The Russian Chamber Chorus of New York will hark back to Christmas in the old country with some traditional sacred music. The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band promises to be jolly as well, but just in case you're still feeling the slump, we've invited special guest Martin Sheen to join the Royal Academy of Radio Actors and sound effects man Mr. Fred Newman. We have good faith you'll be singing along in no time at all. We believe that the more we give at Christmastime the more you get, and that's how we like it. Stay tuned!
