Garrison Keillor: We are tickled pink to note that Mr. Guy Noir the private eye is now the subject of a ballet, entitled "Guy Noir" which the James Sewell Ballet will present, along with other works, next week at the State Theater in Minneapolis and the first week of April at the Joyce Theater in New York. I got to see it in rehearsal yesterday and it's very funny with a lot of dance jokes and parodies and a terrific trouser performance by Sally Rousse as the tycoon and Benjamin Johnson in the title role. You never saw a guy in a baggy suit and a fedora look so good.
GK:
I'm smooth and I'm cool, I'm quick on my toes,
I warm up here at the barre,
An hour of stretching in my sweat clothes
I'm Guy......Guy Noir.
Prudence Johnson:
He's the only guy with grace in this joint
He isn't a stiff, he's a star.....
He does arabesques while standing en pointe
Guy......Guy Noir.
On through the night he dances
Entrechat and grand jete
GK:
Trying to find artistic answers
To the questions of ballet.
(PIANO INTO BALLET SECTION, UNDER.....)
GK: You're doing great, babes.
PJ: Thanks. Ready for the lift?
GK: Looking forward to it. And one and two and up over my head you go.....
PJ: Wooooooooooooooooo.
GK:
Don't worry, kid, you're safe in my hands,
My how lovely you are.
PJ:
It's was a ballet but now it's romance
With Guy......Guy Noir.
