This week on A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor, the cast and crew will be missing the Minnesota State Fair while we're sailing on the 2013 APHC at Sea cruise, so we'll present a compilation of our shows at the Grandstand in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, including music from Suzy Bogguss, The Del McCoury Band, Mindy Smith, Jearlyn Steele, Tonic Sol-Fa, Andra Suchy, and Garrison's ode to fair food, "You Better Leave That Corndog Alone."
Andra Suchy
Andra Suchy spent her childhood on a farm near Mandan, North Dakota, the daughter of two talented singers. By the time she was in grade school, she was traveling around, doing concerts and festivals with her family. These days, she performs with several groups in the Twin Cities area. She also works as a backup singer and as a jingle singer on commercials for White Castle, Target, and more. Andra's solo CD is called Patchwork Story.Suzy Bogguss
During her childhood in Aledo, Illinois, Suzy Bogguss loved music. She joined the church choir, played the piano and drums, and bought her first 12-string with the money she earned from babysitting. Since moving to Nashville in the mid-1980s, she has won acclaim in both country and contemporary music circles. Her latest CD, Lucky, is a collection of songs written by the great Merle Haggard. It was released earlier this year on the Loyal Dutchess label.Jearlyn Steele
Growing up in Indiana, Jearlyn Steele sang with her siblings as The Steele Children. One by one, they moved to Minnesota and started singing together again. Now music is the family business. Jearlyn has recorded and performed with Prince, George Clinton, Mavis Staples, and others. She also hosts Steele Talkin', a Sunday-night radio show that originates on WCCO in Minneapolis. Her most recent solo CD is Jearlyn Steele Sings Songs from A Prairie Home Companion.
